Getting Treatment – Ways Of Convincing Your Loved One With Schizophrenia Or Psychosis To Get Treatment
How to convince your loved one to get the proper treatment? This is the one million dollar question!

Many people ask me this question after they get frustrated and almost give up trying and convincing they’re loved one to receive the proper medical treatment they need.

From my own experience and personal knowledge, more than 50% of the people who are under a psychotic disorder, refuse any kind of help given to them. This is the main reason why so many times, forcing hospitalization is needed.

In order to convince your loved one to receive the proper treatment that is needed, you should first approach by nice words, a worm hug, in a low voice with out shouting or yelling. Try to calm your loved one, gaining his trust and trying to explain the situation to him in a calm matter.

Don’t force him at first, don’t shout at him, don’t hit him and don’t lie to him. Try to use the help of someone that your loved one trusts him the most. It can be his shrink, his therapist, his brother, his wife or husband or any one that your loved one consider as a friend.

Remember that your loved one is not doing it on purpose, he is in a bad mentally shape and there is a big chance that he is refusing to get treatment because of his Paranoiac delusions, and he thinks that we want to harm him and not willing for his best.

Hello dp2,

What you describe here is a very common situation among Schiz. Sufferers.

I think you did well, plus you should add: let try for 8 months, and then we would see.
After those 8 months has passed, we should again find a creative solution. May be to tell your brother that he is more relaxed than before.

you should keep being creative, this fight to get our loved ones to understand is not so simple as it looks like at first and may continue for a long time, sometimes for many years.

Don’t give up!
